"Licensed counselors are required to earn a graduate degree in counseling, spend 1 to 2 years being supervised n the job by a licensed mental health professional (e.g. licensed counselor, licensed social worker, and licensed psychologist), and pass a state counseling examination to become licensed. Once a counselor has achieved licensure in his or her state, the counselor is recognized as an autonomous professional."
